It's Coming

A man was walking in the forest, through the bleakness and darkness, groping to find his way. There was no light. It was raining, no, it was pouring and the man had no shelter, couldn't see, and had no idea what to do. Suddenly, a flash of lightning lit up the sky, so bright it was like day. And in those .2 seconds, the man saw the path he needed to take. If he didn't hold onto that image of the path lit up in his mind, he would remain lost forever....

This past summer, R' Matisyahu Solomon's wife had a heart attack and was hospitalized. While saying tehillim next to his wife's bed, R' Solomon fell asleep and had a dream. In his dream, R' Ahron Kotler came to him and said, "If you remain in Lakewood Ad Bias Go'el Tzedek then you're wife will have a refuah shelaima."

What does this mean? What does any of this mean?

My teacher explained, that this meant Moshiach will come in the days of R' Matisyahu Solomon! It could be today, tomorrow or in five, ten, fifteen years but Moshiach is coming! And so, if he is coming, if he is on his way, are we in the right place to greet Melech HaMoshiach?

As I think about this more, I can't help but be ready to change. And I will. I have already begun, but I know that I am not ready to greet Moshiach. There is so much I need to do to work on myself. So I start today with something concrete TO HOLD ONTO THIS FLASH OF LIGHTNING, this INSPIRATION of what my teacher told me about the COMING OF MOSHIACH! How can I not do anything???

So, here goes....

  1. Wow. It is always important (and hard) to hold on to inspiration - thanks for the mashal!

I'm just wondering how you know for sure that R' Matisyahu Solomon had that dream. Of course we know that moshiach is coming and we should believe that he can come any day - we say achakeh lo b'chol yom sheyavo. These stories do give give us chizuk but did he repeat his dream to anyone?! How does your teacher know this story? Did she hear it firsthand?

  2. The teacher who told it to me said it over from another teacher who heard R' Matisyahu Solomon speak at the Agudah convention, I think. I am not entirely sure, and like all stories we are supposed to take it with a grain of sand... or is it salt? either way, there is a lot to learn and it is completely possible (and i pretty sure it is) that R' Solomon said it/had the dream...

  3. Thanks Rachelli for clarifying. I think that if a teacher heard him speak at the Agudah convention, it must be true. I usually like to verify these stories to make sure because every other day someone else comes to say that this gadol said this and that gadol said that...So you don't always know what to believe! Thanks again! And btw, I really enjoy your blog and your writing!

  4. I totally understand your skepticism. I have heard a lot of stories like this, from other teachers, and although they may not be true, its not whether they are true or not that is important (though its nice if they are) its what we can take from them! and i took a lot from this class.

and thanks! always nice to know someone out there in blogland is reading what i write :D

(but i notice you dont have a blog, or do you?)

  5. I don't know that it means moshiach will come in the days of R' Matisyahu (although i wish it did!)
I think its more of an expression of the sentiment to stay in Lakewood and not leave as apparently he has been contemplating this action for a while.

  6. I have to disagree. R' Solomon wouldn't stay in Lakewood unless there was a plausible reason, and if R' Kotler told him to stay alluding to the fact that Moshiach would come in his lifetime is he did (and his wife would have a refua) then surely he would.
But, there are many different reasons and explanations that can be given, so it is possible on all spectrums, and i am quite content believing that Moshiach will come in the days of R' Solomon. Bimheirah V'yameinu!

  7. From what i've heard (although this is speculation) is that his wife had become ill from everything that he has had to deal with going on in the community. he was contemplating leaving for the health of his wife, so that they would not be subject to the pressures day-in, day-out.

Its fine to be content with something, just be sure what you are content with is real. Ignorance is bliss, but its still ignorance.
